Jen and Jon // Humanist Wedding, Appletreewick, Yorkshire
Jen and Jon are the kind of people who, thirty seconds after meeting, you just want to be best friends with. They are the loveliest of couples, who insisted on including me in their seating plan (and even did some some sneaky detective work to find out my surname.)
I first met them in the Loopy Shrew on one rather dark and chilly winter's night. Chatting about their plans for a humanist wedding really brightened up my day and I was so happy when they asked me to photograph it. When planning their wedding, Jen and Jon threw away all the traditions that didn't mean anything to them, and did everything just the way they wanted. They decided to do the legal bit a week before the wedding, leaving them free to create a beautiful personalised ceremony with their humanist celebrant, Hannah. Their choice of venue was the gorgeous Cruck Barn, which is built onto the back of a proper pub in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Jen and Jon had stumbled upon it during a camping trip several years ago and half joked about getting married there some day. It's no surprise that when planning their day it was the first place that sprung to mind.
Jen and Jon's goal for the wedding day was for it to be relaxed and joyful. A day where everyone could enjoy the food and drink as much as they had done before when on holiday in the village. As you'll see from the photos below, they absolutely nailed it!
